Super Customer Service from FeelUnique

I like ordering from FeelUnique because they have such a wide variety of brands for all types of cosmetics, hair and nail care.  Expensive to inexpensive, they’ve got a very wide variety, and pretty much all of my favourite brands.  Plus, they do free delivery worldwide!  I love free delivery and like it even more when they don’t take forever to send things out just because it is free.  Not to mention, they also send out free samples, that you get to choose, with all orders.

I’ve been ordering from them for a couple of years now and haven’t had any type of delivery issues, so I hadn’t ever had a reason to really turn to their customer support team.  Unfortunately, there was a bit of a problem with my most recent delivery and I had to turn to them for help.  I had ordered three things and one of them didn’t arrive in good shape.  The bareMinerals SPF30 Natural Sunscreen, which is a powder and comes in a brush dispenser – the powder goes in one end and the other end is a brush that you use to apply it – that I ordered was seriously not as it should be when it arrived.  Unfortunately, the bottom of the powder container wasn’t on properly and that meant that powder had been shaking out of the container for who knows how long, but definitely all during delivery.  The powder was in the product box, on the outside of the product box, and then all over the inside of the shipping box and everything else too.  It was a bit of a powdery mess.  Truly, when I opened the box I knew something was wrong right away because there was a little puff of powder when I set the box down.

After I determined that the sunscreen was the culprit and that it was down to it not being properly closed, I wondered what I should do with it.  So, I went to the FeelUnique site and filled out their email form to contact Customer Service.  It’s an easy form to fill out and only took about a minute.  I figured that they would tell me to pack it back up and mail it back to them and then they would send me a new one.  Which would have annoyed me because that would have taken more time than I wanted and involved far more hassle too.  But I was amazed when they responded within MINUTES!  Yes, just a few minutes, not hours or even days, like a lot of online retailers.  Honestly, I think they responded within ten minutes, and that is amazingly good and responsive customer service.  It’s like a customer service dream really.

But then Esther from FeelUnique wrote the magic words that every customer with a problem wants to hear:  I’ve sent out a replacement.  Just like that, they sent me a new one and didn’t demand that I send the messed up one back first or fill out some form in triplicate.  Or buy a new one and send the messed up one back. I’ve had that happen to me before too and thought it was kind of lame of the company because they had twice the amount for the product while I was sending one back that was messed up and hoping it would be handled correctly and they would give me a refund, which they eventually did but it took a whole month.  Nope, none of that messing about was necessary, it was handled smoothly and with the least inconvenience to me.  They didn’t require that I do much of anything except await the arrival of the replacement.

That’s how all customer service should be, in my opinion.  I’m not a person who is continually having problems with my orders and stuff, but when I do have an issue come up, I would like it handled quickly and not be a colossal inconvenience or expense for me.  I don’t really think that is asking that much.  In any case, FeelUnique rocks!  And that’s just one of the reasons why I love shopping there.

Great Product Suggestions from FeelUnique and PopSugar

It’s getting to be that time of year when you might be looking to try some new products, or you’ve got to get into the Spring and Summer swing of things with different needs for your skin and look.  Or, maybe you’re going on a trip for Easter, Spring Break, or just your yearly Summer holiday.  Well, I’ve got a couple of good articles for you to check out today for advice on what travel sized items to take on your next trip, as well as some recommendations from the FeelUnique staff on self tanner, mascara, and face peels.

FeelUnique’s Beauty All Access “We’ve Been Testing” Feature

I buy quite a bit of my makeup, hair and skin care products from FeelUnique.  I like how quickly they deliver – for free – and what a wide selection they have on their site.  And they are always adding new brands to choose from too, just recently they added Urban Decay and coming soon is Aveda.  The other thing I like about them is that they have a lot of resources for tips on how to do makeup and hair, or what products to buy for what need, they also host a lot of Facebook question and answer chats with top stylists, designers, doctors, and the names behind a lot of excellent brands. Recently, they’ve started to include a section in their Beauty All Access area about products they have been trying out, which I find super helpful.  First off though, I have to say that the Beauty All Access ezine (or whatever you want to call it), is full of great tips and has all of the latest seasonal style updates to keep you up to date and looking great in all areas, from makeup and hair, to fitness and nutrition.  It’s one of my top beauty reads each month.  They have a feature called “This Works for Me” that is nice because they interview celebs and stylists about their beauty product essentials and tips, as well as fashion looks.  I always find them interesting and it’s a good place to get suggestions for new products too.

The section I really wanted to point out though, was the “This Month We’ve Been Testing…” feature.  They have three different product types that they are testing this month: self tanner, lengthening mascara, and facial peels.  Self tanner and facial peels are a the perfect way to get a head start on your Spring and Summer skin.  Definitely after winter, we could all use a bit of a boost for our skin, so these might work for you.  They have a little bit of reasoning behind each product on the list, as well as a tip for each of the three product types.  I also like that everything they test isn’t crazy expensive, they have stuff that should be good for just about any budget. Also, each category they have broken down the products into things that are best for a particular situation or desired result as well as the best overall, for instance they self tan is broken down into best for light skin, best for deep skin, and best all around.  It’s nice that they don’t just act like one product will be great for everyone in every situation.  But definitely give it a quick look.  It’s very short and sweet with just like a bullet point for the nine products that they suggest and the three tips.

PopSugar’s “10 Travel-Sized Essentials Under $10” Article

Obviously, this one is geared toward US readers because all of the product prices are listed in dollars, but even if you’re not in the US, the suggestions are great for getting the most out of your travel beauty kit.  There is nothing worse than going on holiday and having your skin and hair suffer because you don’t want/can’t bring your full-sized products with you and don’t really have great substitutes.  Or, worse yet, you just totally let your standards slip and end up with horrible hair and skin as a result.  I will also point out that there are great travel sized containers for just about every type of product now too that you can get at places like Boots or Walgreen’s.  I even use these little miniature zip top bags that you can find in craft stores for a lot of my travel things now because they are flat and resalable, but do work pretty well for semi-liquid things moisturizer or hair conditioner.  Also, you can sometimes get sample sizes of your favourite brands and products from department stores, but this is definitely hit or miss.  I really wish that everyone would let you buy small sizes of their products so you’d know that you can have the same great products on holiday that you do every other day.  I’m sure everyone’s hair and skin would be very happy with that.

The PopSugar article covers ten travel sized necessities for the important travel issues of keeping your hair and skin happy, from dry shampoo to a body exfoliator.  And the best part is that they are all things that you can easily fit in your allowed Ziploc of liquids and they won’t break the bank because they are all under $10.00 too.  It’s nice that so many good things can be found, for reasonable prices, that fit the requirement of being less than 100 ml/3 oz for all of us that like to have decent products when we travel. They even have a travel sized hairbrush that it wouldn’t be too much of a space hog in comparison to your regular, full-sized one.  The Klorane Oat Milk Dry Shampoo ($9.00 for 50 ml can) is on their list and I think I’m going to have to try this, even if not on a trip, because it gets mentioned all over the place and people just rave about it.  Much like the FeelUnique article, this one is short and sweet with just a brief description of the product, as well as pricing information, so there’s no excuse to not at least give it is quick perusal.

How to Have Beautiful Hair Everyday

I read a great list of hair care and styling tips at FeelUnique’s Beauty All Access.  They have 36 tips that will help you have great hair everyday.  All of the tips are reasonable and don’t involve anything too crazy or expensive even.  The tips come courtesy of ten different hair experts and range from hair and scalp care to volumizing to colouring to styling.  They’ve got several tips that I already follow, so I’m feeling pretty good about that!  But there are definitely a few that I’m going to have to try out.

I’ve got a few of the tips that I wanted to highlight because I think that they are so great that even if you don’t want to read the whole article, these are things you’ve got to know.  Here are my favourites:

  • 1. If possible wash hair daily – think how dirty your face gets by the end of a day, and you take your hair to the same places. Philip Kingsley
  • 5. Throw away your dryer nozzle, you don’t need it plus it can lead to excessive damage. Michael Van Clarke
  • 9. Dry, split ends make hair look dull and lifeless and having them trimmed off is the fast way to getting hair in good condition. Nick Irwin
  • 11. If you want to get real supermodel hair like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley or Gisele, rough dry the hair and then take random sections and wrap around big tongs, the secret is to leave the roots and at least an inch/half-inch at the ends and just tong the middle section.George Northwood
  • 14. Book a conditioning treatment when your colour is done or use an over-night deep conditioning treatment soon after. Nick Irwin
  • 19. For an easy, at-home concoction for healing scalps and increasing shine mix 2 tablespoons each of almond, olive and coconut oil, massage through from the ends of the hair to the roots and leave in for one hour. Wash thoroughly after. Nicola Clarke
  • 20. For the perfect at-home blowdry, always use a leave-in conditioner or blow dry lotion as a heat protectant and cuticle smoother. I bought a Tangle Teezer recently after reading something about it somewhere that I don’t recall right now.  If you haven’t heard of it, here is a brief snip from the FeelUnique website about it:

I think this is essential, especially for those of us that have very fine hair.  When your hair is wet it is really prone to breakage and somehow this magical, weird looking brush puts an end to that.  My hair really does look better when I use it and the knots or what have you from washing come out much more easily with this too.  So, it’s one hair care product that I would definitely suggest for everyone, no matter what type of hair you have or what you do to it after you brush it.  We all wash our hair and everyone can use this afterwards to keep their hair in better shape.

I love a good leave in conditioner to keep my hair healthy, especially after I get it coloured.  So, I am definitely going to try the make at home mixture from almond, coconut, and olive oil.  I can’t wait to see how it works on my hair!  I’ll let you know if it is a good thing or a total disaster.

We’re All Moved….Except for the Organizing

Well, it has taken me longer than I thought it would to get moved, unpacked and most things even put away.  Plus, we didn’t have broadband here at the new flat until late last week!  I didn’t realize how much I depend on the Internet until I could only access it with spotty coverage from my mobile phone.  Yikes!  But finally we feel like we are settling in to the new flat and hopefully a few more days of organizing will get things in hand.

Since moving can be so stressful, I decided that I needed a bit of a reward, so I did a little shopping at FeelUnique.com and have a few things on their way to me as I type.  I didn’t get anything that exciting, but they were things I’ve been wanting to try.  So, here’s what I got:

As you can tell from this combination, I’m trying rather hard to get my skin to look a bit better, more even and less splotchy.  My skin has been looking pretty lousy lately, I’m not sure if it is just the stress from moving or (more likely) the lousy eating habits I’ve had for the last couple of weeks.  Well, and I haven’t been exercising either.  Given all of that, it’s not surprising that my skin looks so horrible, I guess.  Of course, I also have a few pigmentation problems from past sunburns and such.  I’ve decided that it is best to do something more long term to conquer the pigmentation problems as well as the natural dullness that comes with getting older.  In concert with that, I’m also trying to find a really great concealer for the splotchiness and the dark circles under my eyes.  Hopefully, this will help my skin look beautiful and lovely and not like I have a bunch of makeup piled on my face covering yucky skin.

I’ve read really good things about the Lancome DreamTone Dark Spot Corrector and I truly hope it lives up to all the hype.  You have to pick from three different skin tones – fair, medium, and dark.  Presumably/hopefully, this is because they are truly targeting things differently for the different skin tones.  In a test with 209 women they found that:

  • 70% saw a visible reduction in Dark Spots.
  • 84% saw a visible improvement in Skin Tone.
  • 80% saw a visible reduction in Colour Irregularities.

All of that sounds really great and makes me quite hopeful.  I’m going to do some photos so that I can track its effectiveness and then write up a post or two to let everyone know if it actually seems to work or not.  But I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed!

As far as the concealers go, I read a lot of reviews and information.  I ended up choosing two that seemed to get good reviews and were in two different price ranges.  Certainly it would be great if the cheaper choice from theBalm worked really well and was a great option because who doesn’t like paying less for things that work well really.  And it does get really great reviews.  However, so does the Dior product, which is almost twice as much, naturally.  I can’t wait to see which concealer works best for me and my skin.

As a result of moving, my new project is organizing all of my makeup, skin care, hair products, and such.  I’ve been keeping all of my stuff in a couple of makeup bags for more than nine months while we were, so it will be great to have them out where I can actually see what I have.  Plus, I was reunited with all of the things I had in storage.  I found a few brand new things that I had forgotten about even.  It was almost like Christmas or my birthday!  It’s hard to find something that will keep things covered that require that but also make things nicely accessible and easy to find.  I’m still searching for the perfect thing though.  So far my favourite solution is a toolbox.  Yes, like you would keep a hammer and screw driver in normally.  It’s certainly not glamorous but they have the right type of compartments and can keep everything together in one handy place.  But I’m still looking for something that might be more girlie.
